Picnic Time Earlier last month, Lucy asked me if I’d ever been to Wells. I hadn’t, nor did I know much about Wells, (other than Hot Fuzz was filmed there) – so we said “Let’s Go!”.

Lucy made up a picnic, we loaded the car and headed down to Wells.  The weather was nice and sunny, great for the picnic and scenery was amazing! Katelyn enjoyed playing at the park.

Wells is a beautiful city, I never imagined how impressive the cathedral would be! A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

IMG_2563We live incredibly close to Cadbury Hill, yet we hardly ever make the time to go walking around there. So one Saturday morning we decided to go for a walk over the hill, head across The Star for lunch and slowly wander back.

We knew that Cadbury Hill wouldn’t be ideal for pushing Katelyn in her buggy/pram… so we brought out “the harness”!  Unlike other harnesses I’ve used, this one has the baby on the back.  I felt like Luke carrying Yoda around Dagobah!

IMG_2579At the pub, the barmaid brought over a balloon and some crayons for Katelyn.  This was the first time she’d tried drawing… she really enjoyed it!

IMG_2585On the way back, Lucy took over on the harness. Katelyn was pretty tired and fell asleep on Lucy’s back!  I did feel a bit guilty, as Katelyn was a little heavier on the way back (i.e. after lunch).

IMG_2567Shame she missed the view of Yatton from the top of Cadbury Hill. Maybe next time?

love you lots, like jelly totsSince Katelyn’s 1st Birthday fell mid-week, we thought it would be best to have a little party the weekend before, so that most people could make it.

What started off an a simple get together for “tea & cake” slowly spiralled out of control.  A few sandwiches turned into a buffet and the teas & coffees turned into beer and wine (and plenty of it) … and there was still lots of cakes!

I’d set-up an SD card full of Katelyn’s photos to play a slide-show on the Wii.  Showing everything from the baby-scans to now. I had to change the background music a few times, as some of the default music on the Wii made the slide-show look like a memorial rather than a celebration.  The slide-show last about half-an-hour, I was impressed that it made 3 cycles before anyone complained!!!

After the party, we thought that everyone would be sick of cake, tired and wanting to go home… but no! Danny wanted to challenge me on Mario Kart, how could I refuse? Then turned into a bit of a tournament involving everyone! It was a good laugh!

Birthday Cake! For Katelyn’s real 1st Birthday, Aunty Lisa came down to visit for a few days. We took a day-trip to Cheddar… and yes, we bought some cheese!

Later on whilst we were doing a Skype video call with my Mum (Nana), Lucy surprised Katelyn with yet another birthday cake! This time it was “death by chocolate cake”!
(I’m sure there’s an Eddie Izzard gag there somewhere?)

snow in the back garden

According to the news, it’s the worst snow the UK has seen for 18 years! It has been falling pretty heavy for most of the day.

We were quite excited as this is the first time that Katelyn has seen snow, although she’s a bit young for a snowball fight… but that didn’t stop little Anita asking Lucy & I to go outside just so she could throw snow at us!

Merry Christmas It’s been a while since our last post. As usual, we’ve had lots on, but never enough time (or make enough time) to tell you about it (whoever still reads this).

standing in the cot

Katelyn is coming on loads, each week she develops something new. She’s been trying to crawl, but seems far more interested in standing up and trying to walk (with assistance from us or the coffee table, or anything about half-a-metre high!)

first tooth A couple of weeks ago, Katelyn’s first tooth started to come through. Our lovely full-night sleeps were disrupted once more! But we shouldn’t complain, as we’ve heard that we’ve got it easy. The end of breast-feeding is imminent! (ouch)

IMG_2164 After weeks of persuasion, Lucy convinced me that it was a good idea to get a real Christmas tree. Of course I was thinking about the environment… the thought of millions of pine needles on the carpet never entered my mind! ;-) The agreement was that Lucy would be responsible for hovering up the pine needles.

We are celebrating Christmas at the Farm with Lucy’s family. Then we’re up to Liverpool on Boxing Day to catch-up with my family, (and debate sleeping arrangements). We’ll be heading back home at New Year. (Please don’t burgle our house whilst we’re away, all you’ll find is dirty bibs & nappies anyway)

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and New Year for 2009, lots of love (and hugs) from Lee, Lucy and Katelyn xxx
